Criteria

  1. Qualifications for the Presidency by Professional Experience.

A minimum of three years of experience in senior-level administrative positions, such as vice chancellor, vice president, provost, dean, or equivalent position, in a two-year college is generally required. Indicate positions you have held in the last ten years.

  1. Qualifications for the Presidency by Educational Accomplishments.

An advanced degree or participation in workshops or institutes on educational leadership is generally required. List degrees earned, institutions, and dates conferred from accredited institutions. List title of dissertation and doctoral advisor. If doctorate not earned, indicate institution, doctoral advisor, anticipated completion date, and evidence of progress toward completion.

  1. Qualifications for the Presidency by Involvement in Community Activities.

Evidence of significant involvement in community activities is generally required. List significant offices, accomplishments, and memberships in community organizations.

  1. Qualifications for the Presidency by Involvement in Professional Activities.

Evidence of significant involvement in professional activities at the local, regional, and national level is generally required. List significant offices, accomplishments, and memberships in professional organizations.

  1. Qualifications for the Presidency by Leadership Accomplishments.

Evidence of leadership in community colleges is generally required. Indicate your major accomplishments as a community college administrator, including any major changes or innovations for which you provided primary leadership. List significant committees and task forces you have chaired.

  1. Qualifications for the Presidency by Scholarship.

Evidence of scholarship or interest in major issues and concerns related to community colleges and educational leadership is generally required. Provide selected evidence of your interests in these areas by listing the articles, books, and reports that you have written; the major speeches that you have made; and the courses, workshops, internships, and other related experiences in which you have participated.

  1. Qualifications for the Presidency by Leadership Potential.

Evidence of leadership potential as viewed by others is required. Provide selective evidence of your leadership qualities and your potential to be a community college president.

  1. Qualifications for the Presidency by Ability to Articulate an Understanding of the Dynamics of Leadership in a Community College.

In a 500-600 word essay, describe why you think you will be an effective community college president.

  1. Two letters of Recommendation.

Evidence of leadership potential as viewed by others is required. Please submit two letters (not more) from key community college leaders that attest to your leadership qualities and your potential to be a community college president. If appropriate, one letter should be from your current chief executive officer, or from another community college president to whom you have reported.
