Homeland Security Assessment

Many organizations have embraced the concept of improving overall performance by using Baldrige criteria as a benchmark to gauge their strengths and opportunities for improvement, and as a measurement of their overall alignment and integration of key processes. Homeland security readiness for higher education institutions can also be addressed by conducting a campuswide self-assessment. This workshop involves the assessment of an institution’s homeland security vulnerabilities to ensure its readiness during turbulent times. A two-day workshop based on the homeland security assessment manual written by the workshop facilitator provides a security check for institutions’ homeland security efforts and aligns the Baldrige Award Criteria for Performance Excellence with homeland security issues. The workshop includes

  • A quality check for an institution’s homeland security readiness and vulnerabilities,
  • A method for conducting a campuswide homeland security self-assessment based on Baldrige Criteria,

  • A process to benchmark other organizations’ homeland security efforts,

  • A template to develop a campuswide homeland security plan,

  • A strategic planning guide for the institution’s short-term and longer-term homeland security planning, and

  • A scoring system for institutions to gauge their homeland security readiness based on the National Color-Coded Homeland Security Advisory System (HSAS).
