Resources to Hire, Aid, and
Keep
Excellent Adjunct Faculty
This workshop will
assist instructional administrators develop a plan to strengthen adjunct
faculty through loyalty, awards, professional development, evaluation, and
mentoring. Programs that have proved beneficial at a college that
typically contracts with 1,000 adjunct faculty per year include elements
of interest to the adjuncts and of benefit to the institution. From
Saturday workshops to faculty mentorships to awards and recognitions,
adjuncts can be made to feel like they are an integral part of the
college. The workshop focuses upon best practices in the use of adjuncts,
particularly in a nonunion environment. From answering questions like “Who
are they?” and “What do they want?” to addressing issues of expectations
of adjuncts and ways to ensure comparable instruction, the speaker
presents workable solutions and aids participants in making a customized
plan for their own institutions. Outcomes include a thorough plan for the
use of adjuncts and determination of the best practices of benefit to the
institution and the adjunct instructors.
