Classroom Assessment and Active Learning: Making the
Connection
Classroom assessment is
designed to help individual teachers find out what, how much, and how well
students are learning. Coupled with the principles of active learning,
classroom assessment becomes a powerful way to obtain immediate feedback
on classroom objectives as well as to provide information on the
effectiveness of particular teaching approaches. This highly interactive
workshop models active learning and classroom assessment techniques while
exploring
-
the basic concepts of assessment;
-
using active learning
to assess attitudes, skills, and knowledge;

assessing the
effectiveness of group activities;

formative assessment of
our own performance in the classroom; and
-
building an environment
that encourages classroom assessment.
A
fundamental assumption of this workshop is that we can all learn from the
experiences of others.
