Next-Generation Faculty

In the last few years, significant research and attention has been appropriately focused on the dynamically changing needs, expectations, and learning styles of the next-generation student. Many community colleges have taken steps to make the teaching and learning enterprise more accommodating for students who have grown up with the internet and the immediate response they have come to expect. Within just a few years, the same institutions struggling with this challenge will begin to hire faculty into teaching positions from the leading edge of this very same next generation. This presentation focuses on the next wave of requisite institutional change as faculty development and even campus governance respond to these new voices. The presenter identifies the different expectations and learning and teaching styles these new faculty will bring to campus, as well as national best practices that should be considered to address this opportunity successfully.
